In Focus: SRMO Construction Arbitration Team SRMO Lawyers joins SCLP

 

As part of its general dispute resolution practice, Siguion Reyna Montecillo and Ongsiako (SRMO) provides specialized representation in construction arbitration. SRMO has represented clients in the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission (CIAC) in disputes involving, among others, termination of construction contract, claims for extension of time, delays, variation costs, payments/progress billings, quality of works, liquidated damages, completion costs, and other claims, with commercial values ranging from Php125 million to Php3 billion.

The SRMO arbitration practice group is composed of lawyers with a wide range of experience and training.

To bolster its construction arbitration practice, SRMO lawyers Attys. Michael Felipe A. Mercado, Broderick C. Arcilla, Eilyn E. Medina-Garcia, and Carlos Nicole J. Recto, have officially joined the Society of Construction Law Philippines (SCLP). SCLP is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting legal excellence in the construction industry.

Atty. Mercado is a Senior Partner and currently the Deputy Managing Partner of SRMO. He is a trained arbitrator and a member of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRC) and the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators (PIArb). He previously taught alternative dispute resolution in a government law school. He has appeared as counsel in various commercial arbitration proceedings, including the CIAC. He likewise handles pre-arbitration and post-arbitral award cases before Philippine courts.

Atty. Arcilla is a Partner specializing in Litigation and Dispute Resolution. He is a trained arbitrator and a member of the PDRC. He is also a certified Tribunal Secretary of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).

Atty. Medina-Garcia is a partner of the Firm. She has been practicing construction arbitration since she joined the Firm in 2015. She was conferred the title of a Junior Arbitrator by the Bureau of Legal Affairs of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) after completing the Advanced IP Arbitration Training Course conducted by the IPOPHL in June 2024. She also successfully passed the written assessment in the 29th Commercial Arbitration Training Course administered by the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc., thereby qualifying as a PDRCI-trained arbitrator.

Atty. Recto is an associate of the Firm. His practice focuses on litigation, tax, and dispute resolution. He handles and assists in arbitration proceedings both before Philippine courts and the CIAC.

Atty. Pamela Rae R. Madrigal is the latest associate of the firm to join the arbitration group. Her practice focuses on litigation, labor, and dispute resolution. She is currently assisting with a dispute before the CIAC.
