Edgardo Roman Manuel C. Balois is a Partner in Siguion Reyna, Montecillo & Ongsiako. He joined the firm in 2011. Mr. Balois’ practice areas include corporate law, immigration law, and labor law. In the Corporate practice, Mr. Balois has extensive experience in mergers, acquisitions and divestments in both local and multi-jurisdictional transactions. This includes the conduct of due diligence, preparation of transaction documents and transaction negotiations. He has also handled syndicated loan transactions and investment agreements. As part of this practice, Mr. Balois also handles corporate housekeeping matters for clients, which includes the winding down of local subsidiaries of multinational corporations. As part of the Immigration practice, Mr. Balois has handled the processing and issuance of various work permits and employment visas, including related applications necessary in the course of an expatriates stay in the Philippines. He has likewise assisted clients in securing immigrant visas, recognition as a Filipino citizen (dual citizenship), and reacquiring Filipino citizenship. Mr. Balois has advised overstaying and blacklisted foreign nationals and those undergoing deportation proceedings.” Mr. Balois has also handled labor matters (specifically collective bargaining negotiations) and civil and criminal litigation (including corporate rehabilitation).

Mr. Christopher P. Capul joined Siguion Reyna Montecillo & Ongsiako in November 2011. As a Partner, he handles litigation and labor cases. Mr. Capul is involved in labor law matters for clients in a wide array of industries, including business outsourcing, construction, and marketing. For his criminal law practice, he handles various cases for violations of the Revised Penal Code, as well as special penal laws. He also has significant work in civil litigation and special proceedings, with particular focus on estate settlement. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 2010, and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2011. Prior to this, he received his degree in Business Management (major in Applied Corporate Management) from De La Salle University – Manila, and graduated Honorable Mention and Gold Medalist for Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis in 2004. Before joining the firm, he was an Associate at Ortega Del Castillo Bacorro Odulio Calma & Carbonell. Mr. Capul is also a Licensed Customs Broker. He placed 5th in the 2004 Customs Broker Licensure Examination among more than 1,400 examinees, and is a faculty member at the Lyceum of the Philippines University, where he handles tariff and customs administration subjects. Abarquez’s field of practice includes taxation and corporate law. Ms. Abarquez was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2004 and joined Siguion Reyna Montecillo & Ongsiako in 2010. She provides tax and corporate legal services for multinational corporations such as Petronas, Swedish Match Philippines, Inc. and ABB, Inc. on various business transactions such as sale and loan contracts, payment of dividends, corporate structuring and restructuring, incorporation and dissolution of corporations, compliance with foreign exchange regulations, and tax treaty ruling applications. Ms. Abarquez earned her Bachelor of Laws from the Ateneo Law School in 2003. She earlier received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Management from Ateneo de Manila University in 1999.
